Samuel James Watters
On January 20, 2006 of Atco, formerly of Haddon Heights, age 90yrs.
Beloved husband of the late Edith M. (nee Welch). Loving father of Margaret Sardarian and her family of Haddonfield and James Watters and his family of Cedar Run, NJ. Proud grandfather of 5, great grandfather of 2.
Born on December 26, 1915 in Belfast, N. Ireland, Mr. Watters was Class President for Camden High School, Class of 1933. He graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY in 1942 as a Marine Engineer. From 1940 to 1946, Mr. Watters sailed as a member of the US Merchant Marine, starting as an Engine Cadet and progressing to Chief Engineer. He also served in the US Naval Reserve (Merchant Marine), Lt. (jg) from 1944 to 1953. Following his maritime employment, he held Operating Engineer positions with Roebling Steel, John Wanamaker, Graduate Hospital and Friends Select School. During the late 60s he returned to the merchant marine and sailed on various ships as a marine engineer.
Mr. Watters was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church of Haddon Heights and Past President of the Haddon Heights AARP.
A Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family.
