Obituary of Harry Pleczynski

Age 45yrs., of Braddock, NJ, who courageously battled mesothelioma (a lung cancer caused by asbestos) for the past six and a half years, passed away quietly on August 22, 2006 at home surrounded by his family and friends. Harry was born in Pittsburgh, PA and grew up in Tansboro, NJ. He is a graduate of Edgewood Regional Senior High School and Rutgers University. He and his brother were partners in a local C.P.A. firm. Harry in the cherished husband of Carolyn (nee Shemansky), loving father of Erika Paige, devoted son of Claire and the late Edward Pleczynski, dear brother of Gilbert (Barbara), Edward (Suzanne), and Darlene (Quentin) Kelly, beloved son-in-law of Vincent and Emily Shemansky, caring brother-in-law of Vincent (Sue) Shemansky, and special uncle to eight nieces and nephews. Countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends will joyfully remember Harry. Harry was an active member of the Parish of Blessed John XXIII in Cedar Brook and Blue Anchor. He served as a member of the finance committee and was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Harold Koeppen Council #7774. He was selected Knight of the Year for 2005-2006. Harry founded the Pleczynski Foundation in 2002, which supports various cancer institutions and research programs through his tireless fundraising efforts. Harry was an avid golfer and Flyers hockey fan. The family invites you to wear your Flyers shirts, hats or pins to the visitation on Sunday from 6pm to 9pm and on Monday from 9am to 9:45am at St. Lucys RC Church, 250 S. Rt. 73, Blue Anchor, NJ 08037. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Monday morning at St. Lucys. Interment, Sacred Heart Cemetery, Cedar Brook, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Harrys memory to the Parish of Blessed John XXIIIs Building Fund at the address above or to the Pleczynski Foundation, 289 White Horse Pike, Ste. 100, Atco, NJ 08004.
