Obituary of Oliver Porter

Oliver Porter departed this life on Saturday, October 10, 2009. He was born on September 4, 1921 to the late John & Beulah Porter in Terrell County, Georgia and was the youngest of eight siblings, all of whom have preceded him in death. Oliver came to New Jersey at an early age and resided in Orange and in East Orange New Jersey and became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Orange. Oliver met Margaret Washington and they married in 1952. From this union five children were born. Oliver and Margaret lived in East Orange, New Jersey until they relocated to Atco, New Jersey in 2000. Oliver leaves to cherish his memory a wife, Margaret Porter; three daughters, Toni Porter, Glenda Oliver-Smith, and Michele Harris; one son Glenn Porter; also Delden Miller, who was like a son to Oliver; one son-in-law Harris; three grandchildren, Towan Oliver, Isaiah Releford, and Jasmin Harris; two sister-in-laws, Lavenia Porter, and Anita Washington; one brother-in-law, Walter Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by another son, Michael Porter. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7th at 11:00am at the United Missionary Baptist Church, 228 South Harrison Street, in East Orange.
