Obituary of Virginia K. Dyer
On November 9, 2009 died at her home in Medford, NJ. She was 83 years old, having been born on March 12, 1926 in Belle Harbor, NY. Mrs. Dyer was surrounded by her family at the time of her death. She died after a four year battle with cancer.
Virginia's life was characterized by compassionate service to others in need. Virginia graduated from Adelphi University in 1947 with a Bachelor's of Science in nursing. She worked with the Army Cadet Corps of Nurses immediately after her graduation. Later in life, Virginia joined the nursing staff at Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly and rose to become the Director of Nursing at that institution. Virginia developed an interest in geriatric nursing and became licensed as a Nursing Home Administrator in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. While serving as the Director of the Quaker sponsored Foulkeways Retirement Community in Gwyned, Pa., Virginia also taught nursing at Gwyned Mercy College as an adjunct faculty member. She moved from the Foulkeways community to serve as CEO of the Pine Run Community, a 200 bed nursing and extended care community in Doylestown, PA. Virginia returned to Medford, NJ in 1979 and opened the first adult medical day care center in the state of New Jersey. She served as President of the non-profit Burlington County Medical Day Care Centers, Inc. for eighteen years. She retired in 1998.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 62 years, John G. Dyer of Medford, NJ; her daughter, Gini Lande of Medford, NJ, her son John G. Dyer III of Richmond, Vermont, daughters-in-law Linda D. Dyer of Richmond, VT and Nancy Dyer-McGoey of Medford, NJ. Mrs. Dyer was blessed with seven grandchildren, Beth Dyer of San Francisco, CA; Katelyn Dyson of San Francisco, CA; John G. Dyer IV of Encinitas, CA; Jeffrey Dyer of Portsmouth, NH; David Lande, Stephen Lande, and Jennifer Lande all of Medford, NJ.
A funeral mass will be held at the St. Mary of the Lakes Church, Jackson Road, Medford, NJ on Friday, November 27th at 10:30 AM.
