Obituary of Edward B. Parkes

Edward B. Benny Parkes On May 27, 2006 of Atco, NJ at the age of 76 yrs. after a long illness. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Campbell). Devoted father of five: Mary Resavy, Anne Parkes, Eddie Parkes, Fran Parkes and Jimmy Parkes. Grandfather of six: Michelle, Michael R., Russell, Michael S., Sara and Shawna. Great grandfather of Jade and Destiny. He is also survived by his three brothers: Frank Parkes, Billy Parkes and John Parkes. Edward served in the US Army 1st Calvary Division during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded several medals including the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. Although being a Disabled Veteran he went on to live a productive life. Edward was a member of the VFW Post 6253 of Berlin, NJ. He worked at RCA in Camden, NJ as an electronics tester (Apollo Space Missions). He then worked at Owens Corning in Barrington, NJ as an industrial electrician and later at Ballys Casino/Hotel in Atlantic City as an electrician, retiring in Feb. of 1997. Edwards passions were watching the Phillies and Eagles. He was also a past member of the Edgewood Boys Club, Interboro and Lindenwold Athletic Assoc. and the Waterford Twp. Little League. Family and friends may pay their respects to this courageous and honorable man on Sunday June 4, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and again Monday morning from 8:30am to 9:15am at the LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home, 441 White Horse Pike, Atco (856) 767-0539. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am at Assumption RC Church, Atco. Interment, Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Edward may be sent to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Dr., Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053.
