Obituary of Kai Karl Ludvigsen

Kai Karl Ludvigsen On December 24, 2006 age 89 of Atco, NJ, formerly of Almonesson in Deptford, NJ. Survived by his beloved wife of 66yrs, Ethel. Devoted father of the late Doris Ludvigsen and son Robert of Sicklerville, NJ. Grandfather of Krista and Eric Ludvigsen. Kai was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and came to this country as a child going through Ellis Island. He served in Germany during WWII and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. In addition, Kai was awarded the infantry combat star and battle stars for the battles of Central Europe and the battle of Rhineland. Kai worked for years in the printing business, working at the Progress Plate Co., the Evening Bulletin and the Philadelphia Inquirer. He was an active member for many years of the Almonesson Vol. Fire Co. and the Almonesson Methodist Church. Kai is remembered by many, for his dedication to preserving the history of Almonesson/Deptford Twp. Over his lifetime he amassed a collection of photos and old postcards documenting the history of the area. He documented some of the history with his own photos taken from the late 1940s through the late 1960s. This includes the moving of the old Methodist church, the old wooden firehouse and blacksmith shop with Ethel pictured out front, and numerous pictures of the old amusement park and Sunset Beach. Cremation was private. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation with the family on Saturday, January 6th, from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. It will be held at The Fountains at Cedar Parke where Kai and Ethel resided together for the last ten years. The Fountains is located at 114 Hayes Mill Rd. in Atco, NJ.
