Obituary of Barbara McDermott

Babs McDermott (nee Burton) On August 14, 2007 of Atco, NJ, age 66yrs. Beloved wife of Donald H. McDermott for 25yrs. Cherished mother of Kenneth P. MacKenzie of Atco, NJ, Ronald K. MacKenzie and his wife Karen of Phoenix, AZ, Donald H. McDermott, Jr. of Colwyn, PA, Paul McDermott and his wife Brenda of Atco, NJ, the late William N. McDermott, and David G. Hively of Jacksonville, FL. She is predeceased by her parents Lt. Cmdr. Paul Willits Burton and Elizabeth (nee Watson). Dear sister of Paul Burton and his wife Amy of Phoenix, AZ. Devoted grandmother of Dustin, April, Heidi, Maggie, Tabitha, Nicky, Kerrie, Sarah and Nicole. Babs spent her career as a special education teacher at Bancroft School and Kingsway Learning Center. After she retired she joined the first class of volunteers at the NJ State Aquarium, loyally dedicating 4,085 hours of her time in the education unit, working closely with seals and penguins. Babs was awarded with the Points of Light Award by President Bush for the many hats she knitted for the homeless. She also started the Water Safety Program for the YMCA of Camden County. Her many years of work and volunteering has affected the lives of countless children, but the most important children in her life were her grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Saturday, August 18, 2007 from 9am to 11am at the LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home, 441 White Horse Pike, Atco (856)767-0539.
