A Poem
I’M FREE
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free
I’m following the path God laid for me
I took his hand when I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day to laugh,
To love, to work, to play.Tasks left
Undone must stay that way.
I found that place at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss.
Ah yes, these things I too, will miss.
Be not burdened with times or sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much.
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s
Touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief;
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Life up your heart and share with me
God wanted me now, He set me free.

As a mother of a Marine, I know what it is to have a loved one in harms way, but know that I shed tears as well for our fallen HERO. Jon did what he was trained to do and beyond for love of family, country and the world because that’s what it means to be a Marine. I thank you Jon and Cathy for being the parents to raise such a valiant man as Jon and giving him the ability to serve his country as a United States Marine and how he wanted to serve. His sacrifice does not return void. Truly he is a man of Integrity and Honor. Jon is an AMERICAN who served for our FREEDOM. Thank you Lance Corporal Jon T. Hicks, Jr. I sit in the library reading all the messages from everyone with tears streaming down my face. I leave you with words from God in hope it will comfort and strengthen you as time goes on. All my love, Lorraine Hollins, Corinth, NY
