I loved Lou very much. We worked together at Ocan City High School and kept in touch since he moved to Atco. We shared our fun e-mails with each other. He had the greatest sense of humor and was one of the kindest men I have ever known. He gave me the ultimate gift when he shared Dorothy's recipe for bourbon balls! He used to tell everyone that the recipe was top secret and he would have to kill you if he divulged the ingredients, but he did give me that recipe. The last I heard, Dorothy was sick around Christmas. I am so sad to hear that Lou has passed. I will deeply miss him and would greatly appreciate knowing how he spent his last days. Love, Kathy McCormick

Each day we encounter many people....but, throughout the years I have been teaching here at Ocean City High School, I have never encountered someone as special as Lou Souder. He would fill each classroom he entered with a loving spirit. His smile would make a bad day go away. His rum balls would greet us each holiday. Lou knew everyone....and considered everyone his friend. Never did I hear him complain, when he came into substitute at our school. Lou was an angel here on earth...and now, his cheerful illuminating spirit will guide those of us who knew him through our remaining days here on earth.
To Lou's family....THANK YOU for sharing him with us.
Rest in Peace My Friend.

Lou never met a stranger. From his days in the Army, through a successful career with a Philadelphia chemical manufacturer to his time in the last apartment he shared with his beloved Dorothy, his smile, wit and charm engaged everyone who knew him. I met him more than 25 years ago and he loved to bait me into political conversations. He welcomed the debate. He also welcomed me into his family. He was a hero to his family and to everyone he met. Rest in Peace, my friend.

BRIGITTE SOUDER posted a condolence
Dearest family, it is with great sorrow and great joy that I write these words
Sorrow for myself because I will miss him so the man that was more father grandfather great-grandfather father in-law and friend that I have ever known or had the pleasure of being part of their life he was a defender of family and friend he loved
with humility and grace and meant the most to me for being my defender friend and father.
With joy because I know he now sits in the presence of the Lord and is graced with all that is good. With joy in knowing
that we became more loving and closer in these finally years. Joyful for the ability that he gave his sons and daughters to
always be with him by his side offering comfort and love and bringing together sons and daughters that had become
just family that gathered for the holidays, and because of him, allowed them a better understanding of each other for giving them a
chance to love give and cry together. Joyful to make him smile as I brought him Brigitte's bread pudding but really it was
the sauce that he so loved joyful for the ability to share some of my life with him during holidays and singing for them
during Christmas Eve Mass these are just a a few of the wonderful and joyful gifts he gave me in these past few years.
though he always thanked me it was he that gave me all the joy as I looked at him and saw the love kindness and grace
he always showed to me.

I'm very sorry to hear of the loss of a great guy... Lou was always fun to be with, but I especially think of the time he spent showing me the ropes of living in Europe (what to buy in each country to take home to the family) and taking over his lab at DCL. Our sincere condolences to Dot, Jim and the rest of the family.

I had the pleasure of knowing Lou when we were both working for Rohm and Haas in Europe. His dedication, friendship, good wit will always be part of my memories.
He was always dedicated to his family, always delighted to speak fondly about his children. His second dedication, probably as strong, was to his work. He always worked with enthousiasm and supported his co-workers.

I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Souder at the 69th Infantry reunion in Nashville this past October (my father-in-law, William F. Shannon, was also in the 69th; the two rode into Leipzig under heavy fire on 18 April 1945). Although I just knew Lou from this very short time at the reunion, I absolutely felt that he was one of the finest gentlemen I had ever met (and that goes for his son Blair, too). We had a great time the entire weekend, highlighted by the recounting of a variety of WWII memories (all very interesting, some quite humorous). I am very honored to have met Lou and shared that very special week-end with him and his son. Lou is a hero to me - I am blessed to have had the privilege of meeting him. Blessings and condolences to the entire Souder family.

Knowing Lou for the relatively brief time we had worked together,I always enjoyed his sense of humor, his work ethic, and his uncanny ability to figure out how to solve a technical problem. His advice was welcomed as he helped me prepare for my first business trip to the Asia-Pacific region --how to understand Australian and know how to make the proper toast in Taipei. He was truly a down-to-earth kind of person. It was so rewarding for me to have known him. His life was truly one to celebrate. Our condolences to Jim and Brigitte and the entire Souder family. Lou was a substitute teacher at Ocean City High School while I was Principal. I was always happy when he was available to sub because I knew the students would have a top notch teacher. My fondest memory is day Lou left OCHS and I had the entire school line the halls and clap for him as he left the building. Seeing him turn and see all the students at the rails of the lobby clapping and clapping was priceless. Lou brought our the best in everyone! I am proud to have worked with him. Sincerely, Joanne H. I too met Lou at the 69th reunion. He and my dad rode into Leipzig on a tank with German bullets whizzing by. They had not seen each other since. Their re-connection after 64 years was a miracle. It served as a healing moment for both of them I believe. I honor Lou for his service, his heroic efforts, and as demonstrated by his son Blair, his outstanding achievements of fatherhood. I will never forget him.

I am so sorry about the passing of Lou and Dorothy. I will always remember Lou and the funny stories he would tell about the service like when he went to a Military Exchange in France and they wouldn't let him in because he didn't have an ID card, he told them he helped liberate France and if it wasn't for him they wouldn't be there. Of course, they let him in! He spoke of his wife and family often and I thought it was so cute that each day, at lunch time, he would call and check up on her. He would try and catch Jeopardy if it was on a TV and write the answers down so when it played at night he could impress Dorothy with all the answers. He had a beautiful head of hair and his response was, "Wouldn't you know it, my wife likes bald- headed men". I will keep your family in my prayers and I will never forget my friend Lou.
