Obituary of Philomena Tomasetta

Ethel Healy (nee Hubbard) of Medford, NJ died on 09/23/2015 at the age of 80 years. Predeceased by her parents, Helen J. and Burnette L. Hubbard of Haddonfield, NJ, Ethel is survived by husband, Robert T. Healy of Medford; brother, Donald Hubbard of Monrovia, CA; son, Adrian Healy of Troy, MI; son Adam of Midlothian, VA; stepson Martin Healy, of Alexandria, VA; and five grandchildren: Connor, Leah, Carly, Mandy, and Elizabeth. A 1952 graduate of Haddonfield H.S., Ethel possessed a B.S. Degree from the University of Delaware, a degree in Medical Technology from Jefferson University Hospital, and MT accreditation from the National Society of Clinical Pathologists. After serving a year in Lady of Lourdes Hospital (Camden, NJ) Hematology Department, Ethel Spent ten years with Wyeth Pharmaceutical Co. (Radnor, PA) as a Research Scientist in the Bacteriology Department. For several of those years Ethel also headed a team doing basic cancer research, funded from grants from the N.I.H. While on hiatus raising a family, Ethel spent ten years teaching Basic Math Skills part time at VanZant Elementary School in Evesham, NJ, while serving several years as a Den Mother and Awards Chairman for a local Cub Scout group, and simultaneously earned a degree in Computer Science, from BCC. She then joined RDW, a company designing CANDAs (Computer Assisted New Drug Applications) for major pharmaceutical companies. Her final position before retirement was with Merck Pharmaceutical Co. (Bluebell, PA) where she verified, correlated, and transitioned data from world-wide drug investigative sites to the Merck data banks for analysis. Ethel enjoyed reading, playing the piano, gardening, playing bridge, and especially the 2-3 hours daily that she spent online researching such varied topics as: dangers from leaking XL pipelines; well-, streams and other drinking-water sources contaminated with toxic and radioactive Fracking chemicals; nutritionally deficient and pesticide-containing GMOs; destructive politics surrounding women's healthcare issues; actions of SCOTUS – particularly the Citizens United and McCutcheon decisions; the lack of even the most basic scientific knowledge (especially human development) by many current legislators; and, generally, the current genre of purposely-misleading and fact-free news broadcasts. Services for Mrs. Healy will be held at a later date. For more information or to e-mail a condolence please visit www.lpwoosterfuneralhome.com
