Elisabeth Anne Knisely posted a condolence
I was a girl, only 11, when the Deshbandhu family came to the community of Woodbury Friends School. The world was a much bigger place then, and for a child, the arrival of your family from so very far away was like seeing the pages of National Geographic come to life. It transformed me and gave us middle-school students the opportunity to expand our social studies class to study India. I remember being wrapped in saris by Mrs. Desbandhu. I remember how my parents, Samuel and Kristine Knisely, spoke with deep respect and appreciation for Mr. and Mrs. Deshbandhu's interest in education. May your sadness at the passing of your husband and father soften over time. I remember him and your family very fondly and wish all of you the best.

Lalaji was a friend and colleague at Gloucester County College. He led the faculty with grace and dignity during a turbulent time in our history. Few of us have the ability to rise to the moment as he so ably did at that time.
During a lifetime of teaching there was much to be learned from Lalaji.

I am so saddened by the loss of our dear Desh. But, I know that his essence is alive in my spirit as a mentor, as a teacher, as a collegue and as a cherished friend, as he is alive in the spirit of so many others. I think of him as a young man in India organizing students in the spirit of change and equity. And I see him as an accomplished professional, older in years, but still, at the close of his professional career, organizing and leading, now his colleague-followers, in the spirit of change and equity. Life is a circle. And a brilliant life makes the brightest circle of light for us to follow. Desh is our bright sun.

My Dearest Uncle,
Words cannot express the grief I am feeling because I was unable to see you for the last time or attend your funeral to pay respects. I said a special prayer in my heart that wherever you are in Heaven..you are at Peace, happily swaying like those "Daffodils" in God's garden. You have known me since I was just 8 and through the years we emailed each other many times and shared lovely conversations. I will never ever forget your beautiful smile, twinkling eyes, and warms hugs. My heart is very sad today....Thank you for being a part of our lives, I love you and I miss you. Rest In Peace Uncle Deshbandhu.
Dear Hanshi Maashi, Anu Didi and Arun..may God bless you during this very sad time and give you Peace and Comfort. Our Condolences, Love, and Prayers are with you..Minku, Paul and Charles Haines

My deepest sympathies to the Deshbandhu family. Dr. Deshbandhu was my English professor at GCC way back around 1977. He made a tremendous impact on me as a new college student. He was kind, professional and extremely talented. His class was tough but I was able to earn an "A" with hard work and his help. Dr. Deshbandhu, Rest In Peace, kind professor. Sincerely, Jane (Botto) Huesser
