Obituary of Jason Maximillam McCalla
Jason Maximillam McCalla, 37 yrs. old, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 5, 2017. Jason was born at his home in Cherry Hill on March 26, 1980 as planned. He attended school in Cherry Hill as well as high school at Cherry Hill East before the family moved to Atco after living in Cherry Hill for 19 years.
Jason was always on the move; he enjoyed being outside discovering what nature had to give. He loved fishing and sometimes hunting. He was an avid collector of rare gems, pennies, all kinds of silver coins, bottles that were very old, sea shells and fossils. As long as it had to do with nature he would collect it. He could take a twig from one of his mother's floral arrangements; plant it and what a tree they would get! He had a knack for growing all kinds of flowers, vegetables and trees. Dirt was second nature to him. He was very creative and inventive. He would say "You could take this or that and it would make this or that." Jason's mind would be going constantly, curious about all things on this earth.
Jason could look at a broken toy or fixture or anything and tell you he could fix it and the majority of the time he could. Always repairing something or reinventing things. Jason would laugh and charm everyone with his spontaneous ways. His heart and smile was as big as he was. Jason was an all around self taught person. His happy spirit and zest for life will be missed and his family and friends will miss him deeply, along with his pal, Pudum his cat.
He survived by his loving and adoring parents, James "Tony" Jr. and Phyllis McCalla (neePatterson); his beloved sisters, Lynn Mason and husband Derek and Lovey Schwarz and husband Richard (Ricky); half brother, James (Little Tony) McCalla, III.; half sister, Nicole McCalla; nieces and nephews, Derek Mason, Jr., Ciara Mason, Angelica Mason, Tyler Schwarz, Hunter Schwarz, twins, Morgan and Sophia Schwarz, Olivia Schwarz, Ava Laing, Alexia McCalla, along with many uncle, aunts, cousins and Pudum his favorite cat.
A celebration of Jason's life will be held on Saturday, April 22nd from 11am-1pm at LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home & Crematory at 441 White Horse Pike Atco, NJ. Cremation is being held private for the family.
