Albert Roemer

Obituary of Albert E Roemer

Albert E. Roemer, Sr. Age 89 of Atco, formerly from Sicklerville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He is predeceased by parents Harry and Marie (nee Schoeller). Albert is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Eileen (nee Fitzpatrick) and sons Albert Jr. (Christine) and Don (Dr. Micele). Pop to Douglas, Ryan (Dr. Erin) and Dr. Jaime Fuscellero (Carmin). Great Grandpop to Annabelle, Meredith, Emerson and Mallory. Albert (AKA) Al, Alby, Dad, Pop, Grandpop, Uncle Al, Old Man, Moose and Chipmunk Cheeks was born in the family home in Westville, NJ. Graduated from Woodbury HS Class of 1944. He served honorably in the 2nd Division of the Marie Corp during the occupation of Nagasaki, Japan. A caring Jarhead who took excess food and his chocolate bar rations to children who came to beg through the chain link fence after their city was destroyed. Married Eileen May 20, 1950 and lived in Sicklerville for the next 66+ years. Albert worked for NJ Bell for 39 years, starting as a custodian at age 16 and moving through the line gang and switchman before retiring as a switching supervisor, and much to his dismay of Verizon, had taken full advantage of 35 years of pension payments. Traveled extensively, mostly by railway or drivable locations in the U.S. and Canada because "there are plenty of places here I haven't seen, so why fly elsewhere?" He did make some exceptions with cruises, especially to Hawaii, only because it was somewhat difficult to drive there. He could tell you (and always did) where every abandoned railroad bed in South Jersey originated and terminated. He was active for many years with the Boy Scouts, Explorer Scouts, several trailer clubs, ice skating, skiing, furniture building, camping, canoeing and tending his vegetable garden. He was a man who was ALWAYS there for family and friends. Services will be private at his request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan Hospice at www.samaritannj.org/giving/donate-to-samaritan-hospice.
