Obituary of George H. Toon, III
George H. Toon III, age 75, of Sicklerville, NJ passed away peacefully on September 14th, 2017 at Samaritan Inpatient Hospice Center Mt. Holly. Beloved husband of 53 years to Barbara Toon (nee Clarke). Loving father of Cynthia (Carl) Ball and George H. Toon IV. Proud grandfather of Christopher Ball, Caroline Ball, Catherine Ball, Brandi Toon, and Cheyenne Toon. He is also survived and will be sadly missed by his sister Patricia Guittar, brother-in-law James Clarke, sister-in-law Mildred Beehler, in addition to nieces, nephews and extended family.
George was born on June 6, 1942 in Camden, NJ. He was the son of George H. Toon II and Anna Doris Zimmerman. He lived in Oaklyn, NJ and his class was the first to graduate from Edgewood High School in 1960. George enjoyed fishing and boating at Newton Creek in Oaklyn, where he sold fish to others. He enlisted in the NJ Army National Guard in March 1960 and went on active duty in July. He served his country until 1964 as an Armor Crewman and Rifleman. He was a Specialist Enlisted Grade 4 serving three years, extended one more year for a total of four years of honorable service. George earned the Army Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, Merit Ribbon, Army Expert Rifle Medal, and Army Driver/Mechanic Driver-T Medal. George’s other awards include State of NJ Certificate of Appreciation, Certificate of Recognition for Cold War Service, County of Camden award for Service-Commitment for Our Country, and the Camden County Medal for Honorable Service. He was employed at Chrysler Corp. in Newark, DE for thirty years as line supervisor and production line coordinator.
George will be remembered for his gentle voice and dedication to his wife and family.
The family would like to thank Samaritan Hospice and staff for the exceptional care to George and his family. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at 10:30am followed by a memorial service at 11:00am with military honors at Sicklerville Methodist Church, 406 Church Rd., Sicklerville, NJ.
