James T. Fitzpatrick
Beloved husband of Frances (nee Williams), Jimmy died peacefully at home in Somerdale on November 19th.
Our thanks to Samaritan Hospice and their wonderful caring staff. He spent 2 years fighting prostate cancer successful but was struck down suddenly by leukemia, passing in two weeks.
Born in 1929 to Thomas & Elsie (Staley) Fitzpatrick, Jimmy was the eighth of ten children. His early years were spent in Stockton Park and North Camden. He married in 1956 and moved to Somerdale, living in the same house for 50 years. He was a real family man and devoted father of three children; Beth Fitzpatrick Byrnes, John Williams Fitzpatrick and Eric James Fitzpatrick.
In 1956 he became a member of the Philadelphia Ironworkers local 401, working 37 years in the tri-state area on the Walt Whitman Bridge, Liberty One, Spectrum, Camden Aquarium and other jobs as a Foreman. He loved being an ironworker. After his retirement in 1993 he enjoyed 5 winters in St. Petersburg, Florida where he still has family. He loved shuffleboard, fishing, league bowling and agitating his friends and family regularly. He was a long time member of the Somerdale Baptist Church (now Park Avenue Community Church) and served on the Board of
Trustees. He love to work outdoors, planting the grounds around his home.which meant eternally tinkering with lawn mowers and tractors.
Jimmy is pre-deceased by his brothers Thomas, Joseph, Freddy, William - and his sisters Elsie, Dorothy and Helen. Jimmy is survived by his wife Frances; daughter Beth (William Byrnes), sons John (Dianna) and Eric (Nancy); sisters Marie Barrett and Ruth Gray in Florida; ten grandchildren - Joshua, Stephen, Andrew, Adam, Jessica, Clifford, Alyssa, Matthew, Daniel, Alexis and numerous nieces and nephews.
