Obituary of Richard James Landgraf
Day is done, gone the sun, a beautiful life has come to an end. In our hearts a memory will always be kept. All is well, safely rest. Lord, An instrument of your peace, Richard J. Landgraf, passed away at the age of 90 on Sunday February 6, 2011 at Virtua Hospital in Voorhees.
Mr. Landgraf was born in and spent the early part of his life in Philadelphia. He graduated from Frankford High School, class of 1939 and attended Penn State University hoping to obtain a degree in Veterinary medicine. On March 4, 1943, Richard was called to service. He faithfully defended his country as a Radarman 2C during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Landgraf had served on the USS LST 392 which participated in the Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign, the USS Aspro (SS-309); both of which had earned battle stars for WWII service and on the USS Sierra (AD 18) during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge in 1952 Mr. Landgraf made a 40 year career at the former Bell of Pennsylvania, now AT&T. Professionally he had been a life member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Mr. Landgraf is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sara E. (nee Augustine) Landgraf. He is the father of Andrea & her husband Tim Bevan of Christiana, PA, Susan & her husband Tim Schaeffer of Berlin, Colleen & her husband Charles Boos of Winslow Twp., the late Bruce Brong and his daughter-in-law Carol DeSpirito of Winslow Twp. Richard is the proud grandfather of John, Howard, Jason, Erik, Kyle, Evan, Garrett, Lisa and great grandfather of Ettore, Nicolas, Jaxon, Vandon and Weston. Mr. Landgraf was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Harrison. He is also survived and will be sadly missed by his many caring nieces & nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to Richard's viewing on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 pm and on Friday morning between 9:30 and 10:30 am at the LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home 441 White Horse Pike, Atco. Interment and graveside military honors will follow at North Cedar Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia.
