Memories of you teaching me to water ski (behind a rowboat!) and terrorizing Long Beach Island in your "Stang" with the cutouts open will always be with me as an unforgotten marker of our youth. We had several summers that I'll always remember. Travel well and far, my friend.

"Pierre Jean," as I called him, R.I.P.
A wonderful, talented florist. I once asked his brother, Wes, not to be insulted but I wanted Perry to do the flower arrangements I was ordering. He wasn't insulted but flattered because as he told me taught Perry how to be a great florist.

SPEED RACER, that was my dad's nickname for me To try to sum up the life of my father and my memories of him in this small block of email space... it's impossible.
The owner of James M Thoirs Flower Shop... it was his life. He grew up in the business, taught by his older brother, Wes, and it was clear to see my dad had a special talent for it. He was exquisitely artistic, a talent you don't find today at all. He touched the lives of so many and anyone and everyone in Cherry Hill, Moorestown, Mt Laurel, Haddonfield knew Perry at Thoirs. He did their flowers for Birthdays,and Mother's Day, Valentines and Weddings... Births and Birthdays, Proms, Anniversaries and eventually, funerals. He touched the lives of many just by adding a simple flower. He believed in working hard, working honest, because as he said, "if its worth doing, at least do it right". It's because of my dad that I have the work ethic I have today.
But on the personal side...He was a simple man, quiet most of the time, especially around those he did not know well; but when he liked you, he'd talk and joke for hours with you. He might of been born in the winter, but Summer was his favorite time of year. The sun could not shine hot enough, the fish could not be bite enough, and the beer could not be cold enough! When he wasn't working he was fishing or in the yard landscaping. The house we lived in, was the house he grew up in as a child and he really loved it there. When we were little, he took my sister Dawn and I to a giant rock quarry to hand pick every stone and rock to fill our entire backyard....the endless milk crates of stones and countless trips in the truck back and forth. All designed around his beautiful cactus garden... and later the koi fish pond and waterfall, all built himself. The hours of Star Trek, Adam 12, TJ Hooker and yes, Miami Vice, were well worn into his black leather recliner! I always loved it when he would go grocery shopping because when he did, it was because he was going to cook something. I don't know where he ever learned to cook, and he didn't do it often, but he was an amazing cook! He had a tough guy attitude, loved motorcycles, fast cars (esp mustangs!) and had a great collection of guns. About 5years ago, my husband taught me how to shoot... I was so excited. I called my dad and and sent him pictures of my targets..... He said, "How do you like that!? Looks like you inherited my good aim and talent with guns!"
He was a hero three times over. Recognized by the Cherry Hill Police Dept for his Bravery and Heroic Action after my father saved the life of a women being attached in the Cherry Hill Mall parking lot, and tackled the guy to the ground until the police came and arrested him. Then there was the time my little sister was so sick, only 9mths old, and a fever over 105... She convulsed and stopped breathing and I watched as he gave her CPR and got her breathing again before an ambulance even arrived to the house! The third time, I was in high school... not yet driving but I was to work at the store on Sundays so he was driving me in. It was summer and on the way, we noticed a man on the side of the road unconscious and next to him a bicycle. He had me run to the nearest house to call for help and again, by the time I got back outside to him and the old man, he had the man breathing and awake, holding his hand until the paramedics arrived. The man had a heart attack while riding his bike up hill, in the heat. I will always remember my father as a hero.
Dad, I know you are finally free to live without pain, and breath in the fresh air you loved so much. You have a bunch of special angels teaching you the ropes up there in heaven, and you have nothing but sunshine now for your eternity. Love and miss you always. Tracy Lin

My dad saved my life when I was a toddler and for that I am forever grateful. He had nicknames for my two sisters and I... I was Fred. My dad had a love of fishing like know other. He would go out and catch flounder to cook for us often. He also loved deep sea fishing and had a collection of rods and reels. I loved going to the bait store with him. He was a very talented florist and loved spending the summer months outside in our yard landscaping. A perfectionist making it beautiful with the exception of the cactus garden I fell into. My dad was a very creative man and would help me with school projects. My fondest school project memory was when we went into the Pine Barron’s collecting different types of moss for a class project and showing me what a cranberry bog looked like. He often would take me to work with him on Sundays and I would watch him prepare all the arrangements for Sunday deliveries to the funeral homes. I would ride along with him during those deliveries. We took amazing family trips in the summer for FTD conventions. I remember at night during the week I would cuddle up with him on his black leather recliner and we would watch Miami Vice and all the other prime time shows little kids shouldn’t be watching. He introduced me to the Rocky movies and little did he know he created an obsession to which I have to this day. After a trip to my cousin’s and seeing his pet bunny I asked for one. Had to be a Holland Lop. He built an outside cage for him to live in. I think it quickly turned into his pet as he enjoyed holding him and letting it lay over his shoulder. Getting his coffee cup ready with his instant coffee grounds at dinner and getting his slippers I did often. I loved going on Home Depot errands and beer runs... I knew I would always get my Slim Jim.
Love Lives On
I fall asleep in the full and certain hope
That my slumber shall not be broken;
And that, though I be all-forgetting,
Yet shall I not be all-forgotten,
But continue that life in the thoughts and deeds
of those I have loved.
