Condolences to Bob's many friends and family members.
I first met Bob when he interviewed me for a reporter's position with the C-P. The was about 50 years ago, and he ultimately hired me to fill a reporter's spot at the Courier-Post.
I had just gotten out of the Navy and Bob was the newspaper's managing editor. We got along fine from day one, and I was shocked to see his obit in today's paper.
I think it was meant to be. My wife had read the paper and had placed it in front of my cereal bowl. Bob's obit just happened to be staring right up at me.
I know we all die, but it's quite a shock to see someone's obit you once knew and really respected at the breakfast table.
My mind immediately wandered to some of the biggest stories Bob and I shared. Stories like the The Garden State Park fire, 9/11 and Abscam.
And then there were the newsroom names. Names like Coit Hendley, Florence Sikorsky, Art Bentley, Rose Alice Hoerst, Bob Tulini, Bob Kenney, Bud Magnin, Joe Wells, Denney Culnan, Scotty, Tom Bergbauer, Jack Wolfer and Sam Kushner.
Rest in peace my friend. You're still in the minds of many. You have not been forgotten.
