Obituary
Obituary of Mary Jane Griffin
"The 0-2 pitch, swing and a miss! struck him out! The Philadelphia Phillies are 2008 world "Ph'ing" champions of baseball!" Moments like these we never forget. We remember exactly where we were and whom we were with. In the early morning of Sunday September 18, 2011 Mary Jane Griffin (nee Allibone) passed away at the age of 81. Those special memories that bring us grief and pain today will become the source of our greatest joys tomorrow. Mary will be fondly remembered as a feisty, honest and vocal character that had a wonderful sense of humor. Once she started to laugh it was difficult to stop, especially with her sisters.
Mary was born in Glendora with a sense of get up and go. She loved to go to the mall and shop, travel and play her luck at the casinos. She was a social butterfly who loved, most of all, to dance. It was dancing that lead her to a Navy Man who she met at "PG's" in Clementon. They got married with the Army Navy football game on in the background. During their 33 years of marriage they moved a bit, enjoyed summer vacations and danced until her and her 25 year Navy Chief settled in Lindenwold. In her early years she lived out and in her later years she learned to live strong. Mary was a 23 year breast cancer survivor. She had taught Sunday school at the Garden Lake Bible Church and was a member of the Moose Lodge, both in Lindenwold. Mrs. Griffin cheered on her Phillies and was a talented artist. Mary loved to play bingo and bowl, spend time with her girlfriends and even traveled to Italy. Mary had the hardest job of all. She was a stay at home mom and a grandmother who adored her grandson. Undertaker, please drive slow for this lady you are carrying Lord, I hate to see her go.
Mrs. Griffin is the widow of her late husband Chief James W. Griffin. She is survived by her daughters Lynda Griffin-Werner and Diana Griffin-DiPietro. Mary is the proud grandmother of her Joey Werner and is the sister of Edna Mae Cro, George Allibone and Grace Hammons. Mrs. Griffin is also survived and will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews and her girlfriends.
When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room why cry for a soul set free? Relatives and friends are invited to join the Griffin family on Saturday morning between 10 am and 12 pm to celebrate the Phillies, jitterbuggin and the shop till you drop at the LeRoy P.
