Gerald Alfred Thompson, age 80, of Chesilhurst, NJ, passed away on Sunday July 14, 2019. He was born on September 22, 1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Gustavia Thompson and James Thompson. Gerald had 3 sisters, Dorothy, Ida, and Jimmie Lee and 1 brother, Richard.
Gerald Thompson was raised, educated, and lived the majority of his early life in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
As a young man Gerald joined the United States Air Force for three years and returned to service with the United States Army from October of 1963 serving three more years before receiving an honorable discharge from the Army in 1966. After his time in the armed services, Gerald worked as a postal clerk for 34 years for the United States Post Office at 30th street station in Philadelphia until his retirement.
On June 7, 1969, Gerald A. Thompson married Ms. Doris Catherine Robinson. The couple first settled in Philadelphia Pennsylvania having two boys born in the city and within a few years moved to the town of Chesilhurst New Jersey to raise their family. Doris and Gerald Thompson enjoyed 50 years of marriage.
Gerald leaves behind his wife, Doris C. Thompson, two sons, Jerome A. Thompson Sr., Brian A. Thompson and his wife Camille Horton Thompson; grandchildren Jerome A. Thompson Jr., Nicholas A. Thompson, Christen A. Thompson, Caiden A. Thompson, and many nieces and nephews.
