Phyllis Outten

Obituary of Phyllis C. Outten

Phyllis Corbin Outten, 78, of Atco, NJ, peacefully passed away to heaven on November 28, 2019.

She was born to Andrew Corbin and the late Dorothy Gibson Corbin, on June 15, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Phyllis graduated from Overbrook High School in 1959.  She was awarded a Samuel Robinson Scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, as well as being one of the first female graduates of the historic and much beloved Lincoln University in 1963.

She married Willie Outten on May 2, 1964, and although they later parted, their marriage produced three sons.  She continued to live in Willingboro, New Jersey until her move to Atco, NJ in the 1990’s.  There she helped to raise her 3 older grandchildren, Christopher, Kira, and Courtney.  In the early 2000’s, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she helped to raise her youngest grandson, Corbin, before returning to Atco, NJ.  Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she played a critical role in raising them all.

Phyllis is survived by her father: Andrew Corbin, of Mount Olive, NC; her children: Craig Outten, of Rydal, PA; Kevin Outten of Atco, NJ; and Todd Outten of Philadelphia, PA.  Four grandchildren survive her: Christopher Outten, Kira Outten, Courtney Outten, and Corbin Outten.  Phyllis is survived by her siblings: Reynold Corbin of Ardmore, PA; Dolores Corbin, of Mount Olive, NC; and Katherine Corbin of Havertown, PA.  In addition, she is survived by other loving relatives and friends who cherished her.

Phyllis loved crafting art in all of its forms and was accomplished at crochet.  She loved crocheting blankets, hats, scarves, and socks for her family members, and her Afghans are precious mementos, which her family will cherish for generations.  She passed along her appreciation for music to all her children and grandchildren as well as appreciation for crochet and knitting to her daughters-in-law: Ramona A. Outten of Atco, NJ, and Judith L. Outten, of Rydal, PA.  Phyllis was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind warm memories of her love, support and caring.

Her homecoming Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2019, at 12 p.m. at the Leroy P. Wooster Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 White Horse Pike, Atco, NJ.  There will be a visitation period with the family from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. There will be a repast following the service.
