Obituary of Robert Angelo Ferrante

Robert Angeleo Ferrante was born on November 5, 1939 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania to Erminio and Margret Pilla Ferrante. Robert was preceded in death by both his parents, his siblings Joseph, Herky, Michael, Lorraine, Marcella and Rose, his mother in law Mary Langston, his daughter Patricia Davenport, his grandson Darrell Davenport and by his son in law Oliver Gray. Robert was educated in the Philadelphia school system and upon graduation, entered his family’s business. He served his country in the United States Army and upon returning home Robert took over his family’s’ business due to the declining health of his parents. In 1962 Robert married the love of life, Betty Langston. Together they shared three children. Patricia, Barbara, and Jerome. Robert and Betty were inseparable. He made it his life’s mission to ensure that his bride was always loved, provided for and taken care of. Robert was a family man and had a hand in taking care of and raising all of his grandchildren. ” Pop-Pop” as he was affectionately called, was the King to his children and he showered them with all the love they could stand. Robert owned and operated Barney’s Luncheonette in South Philadelphia. He was adored and loved by the entire 5th street community. He had the innate ability to never have to use a calculator whenever adding up anyone’s order. If you called it out, he would add it up. It is also said that Robert knew what personally what everyone wanted when they walked in the store. He made it his business to know what his customers liked and always got it right. Robert will be remembered for his quiet nature and his big heart. Barney’s will forever go down in history as the best burger, fishcake and milkshake spot in town. The 5th Street community loved Barney’s and Robert for his compassion and love for them. Robert kept such a positive outlook on life, even as his health failed him. He never gave up and he fought a great fight up to the end. Robert departed this life with his loving wife, two children and a special family friend by his side. Robert leave to cherish his memory, his loving wife Betty Ferrante, his daughter Barbara Gray, his son Jerome Culmer Sr. and his significant other Leslie Moore, and his grandsons: Jerome Culmer Jr, Christopher Culmer, Derrick Davenport, Mark Davenport and Paul Azzinaro Sr., his granddaughters: Donna Davenport and Staci Azzinaro, one godson whom his raised, Preston Jackson: 12 great-grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday January 27, 2020, 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 300 Higgins Drive, Glassboro NJ. 08028. Services will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Arneytown, NJ.
