Obituary of Ernest A. West

The greatest measure of a man is not measured in the crucible of imperfections, but rather, in the metamorphoses of what he becomes and In the twilight of our years, when the day comes, and the sun won't touch my face, tell the ones who cared enough that I finally left this place. On Saturday August 25, 2012 Ernest A. West's, sun had settled into the dusk at the age of 62. Ernie had a gruff exterior and a deep bass voice but his bark was worse than his bite. Underneath it all he was a big teddy bear who was; loving, kind and generous, almost to a fault. No one loved mayonnaise more than Ernie. He was a "foodie" who knew his way around the kitchen and was the king of creole cuisine. Ernie's sun had risen in early spring in Harlem, New York City, NY. He was raised by his aunt & uncle in Pleasantville, NJ. His career afforded him the opportunity to move around the country spending time in New Orleans, Kansas City and Topeka, among others before settling in Wesley Chapel, FL. Ernie worked as the count room manager for Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, FL. Ernie was always "dressed to the nines" he was a clothes horse who loved to travel and shop. At home he enjoyed a sip of bourbon with smooth jazz or a good James Lee Burke or Anne Perry novel. Ernie is survived and will be sadly missed by his dear friend and companion Barbara Perkins. He is the father of Tammar West and brother of Frances Carter, Flora Richardson and Ethel Ziegler. Ernie is also survived and will be sadly missed by his Uncle Sam Hardaway. Relatives and friends are invited to join the West family to remember and celebrate Ernie's 62 years on Saturday morning between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm at the LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home & Crematory 441 White Horse Pike, Atco where a funeral ceremony will be celebrated at 1:00 pm. Interment and graveside tribute will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery 88 Berlin Road in Gibbsboro. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the American Heart Association 600 S.
