Obituary of Robert C Dickson
Robert C. Dickson, formerly of Atco, New Jersey passed away on November 22nd, 2012 peacefully at the Lakes in Willow Street, PA. Born in Philadelphia, PA to Amy and Joseph H. Dickson, he spent his early days in Woodlyn, Ridley Township, Pennsylvania before moving to Atco at age 12. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II.
During Bob’s career he was a Department of the Army Civilian, serving as Armament and Fire Control Technical Advisor at the Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia, PA. He served two overseas tours of duty in Germany, and he traveled extensively overseas to support missions in Korea, Saudi Arabia and Italy. He also provided support to U.S. Army bases throughout the United States. His final assignment was as an advisor to the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Fulda, Germany. Bob received many awards and commendations, including an honorary lifetime membership in the “Iron Horsemen”, 4th Armored Division.
He and wife Aileen lived in Atco for many years and raised their family there. In retirement they lived in Port St. Lucie, Florida until moving to the Willow Valley Retirement Community in 2006. They traveled extensively and enjoyed visiting friends and interesting places in their camper.
Bob was past commander of American Legion Post 311 in Waterford Township, and was also a Mason. He served for seven years on the Waterford Township School Board, and was an active parent supporting many YMCA youth sports activities.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Aileen, a daughter Lynn Crouch and her husband Steve of Chesapeake, VA, a son Colonel Robert B. Dickson AUS, (Ret.) and his wife Kathleen, of Fairfax, VA. He was preceded in death by another son, Randall L. Dickson, a brother, Richard Joseph Dickson, Lt. Colonel, USAF (Ret.) and a sister, Amy. Survivors also include his sister Elma and her husband F. William Rambo of Rockville, MD, daughter-in-law Nancy S. Dickson of Warrenton, VA, five grandchildren, Lauren, Christopher, Ryan, Michael, Mark and four great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may call at the LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home, 441 White Horse Pike, Atco, N.J., Wednesday November 28, from 11:00am to 12:00 noon followed by a memorial service at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Atco Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that remembrances of Bob be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donors choosing.
