Obituary of John Charles Taylor

John Charles Taylor, 87, loving husband, father and grandfather died Sunday, January 16, 2005 with his wife Anne by his side. Mr. Taylor immigrated to the United States from his home in Glasgow, Scotland in 1923. The Taylor family settled in Philadelphia where John was a member of St. Joan of Arc parish and attended North Catholic High School. On November 24, 1945 he married Anne L. Boyle after the two met while working at the Philadelphia Naval Yard. In 1947 Mr. Taylor joined Roadway Express, retiring from the company in 1980. John and his family moved to Delran, NJ in 1961 where he was active in St. Peters Parish in Riverside and the founding of the Church of the Holy Name in Delran. He was the first President of the churchs Holy Name Society, a trustee of the church, founding member of the 55-Plus Club, longtime lector and involved with the parishs Perpetual Adoration. For years, John made an annual religious retreat with the Men of Malvern. He was a lifelong sports fan and avid bowler, participating in many area bowling leagues and competitions over the years. An accomplished baseball player and coach, John passed his love of sports on to his children, especially his devotion to the Philadelphia Phillies. Mr. Taylor was predeceased by his father Daniel, mother Catherine (nee Carrigan), his brother Michael and sister Helen Nell Marnien. He is survived by Anne L. (nee Boyle), his wife of 59 years, currently residing in Atco, NJ; his children, Kathleen (Allan) Sciscio of Egg Harbor, NJ, Maureen (Ken) Copper of Sandy Hook, VA, John Taylor of Ponca City, OK, Dennis Taylor of Delran, NJ, and Daniel Taylor of Lutherville, MD; his brothers Charles Taylor of Warminster, PA and Daniel Taylor of North Wales, PA; his grandchildren Leigh Anne (Sciscio) Moriarty, Wayne Sciscio, Brooke Sciscio, Amy (Copper) Buiting, Ian Taylor and Michele Taylor; his great-grandchildren Madison and Gavin Buiting; and many loving nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Thursday from 10:30am to 12:15pm at the Church of the Holy Name, 206 Conrow Rd., Delran. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30pm. Entombment, Lakeview Mausoleum, Cinnaminson.
