Obituary of Stanley J Zaleski

Dr. Stanley J. Zaleski Sr., 82, of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, entered into eternal peace at his home surrounded by his family on May 13, 2014. Stanley is survived by his beloved wife Joan of 57 years, son Stanley Jr. (Elaine) Zaleski, daughters Dr.Jill Zaleski, Lissa Zaleski (Paul Johnson) and Gwen Cook (Jeff Cook) and his loving grandchildren Jake Johnson, Zachary Zaleski, Makenna Cook, Kristi Zaleski, Jack Roken, Sophie Johnson and Austin Cook. Stanley was born in Camden, NJ on September 11, 1931. He graduated from Camden High school in 1949. Stanley was a gifted athlete in both high school and college. At Camden High School he was named All Group 4 in Football, Baseball and Track. He also received All South Jersey accolades in football. Stanley was awarded The Alexander Oaks Award for outstanding senior, The Brooks Irvine Award for Back of the week and the Camden Rotary Award for Back of the year. Stanley continued on to receive a full athletic scholarship to Loyola University in Los Angeles, California for football from 1949-1953, He received his Bachelors degree in Pre- Medicine. Stanley was inducted into the Loyola "Lions" Football Hall of Fame in 2013. After college he attended Temple University School of Dentistry from 1953-1957. Stanley Zaleski was married to Joan DiGiovanna in 1957. After medical school he and his wife Joan were stationed in Mobile, Alabama. Stanley was a United States Air Force Captain and the base dentist. Stanley returned to New Jersey to be closer to his parents and family. He built his dream home in Cherry Hill in 1970. In his spare time he enjoyed carpentry, gardening and stamp collecting. Stanley had lifelong ties to his neighborhood and the Town of Cherry Hill. He practiced dentistry for over 40 years at the South Jersey Medical Center where he was also President. His dedication to the Township of Cherry Hill started in the early 1970's. He was a member of numerous organizations including the Board of Health 1970-1972, The Cherry Hill Zoning Board and Vice Chairman 1974-1980, Township Campaign Chairman 1978, Camden County Republication Committee man 1978-1979, Member of the Cherry Hill Township Committee and a district 34 leader, and ran for Township Council in 1976. Stanley was also an avid golfer. He was a long time member of Tavistock County Club and President from 1992 through 1994. During his presidency he raised numerous funds for scholarships and the preservation of the club. Stanley retired from dentistry in 1990 to spend his retirement with his family and grandchildren, but he still found time to give back to future dentists. He was appointed to the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry in June 1989 and the Northeast Regional Board of Dental Examiners in April 1997 and was also an active member of the Copernicus Society for Members of Polish decent and cultural heritage In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the St. Joseph Polish Catholic Church for the restoration and preservation of his beloved church and grammar school. Relatives and friends are invited to the memorial mass on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 12 Noon at St. Joseph Polish Church, 10th and Mechanic Street in Camden. Interment is private.
