I worked for Bill at NATTS, in Trenton, N.J.,when he was in charge of conducting fire tests on a Boeing engine in a DC3 pod in an altitude simulation test chamber.
We had fuel and oil on programmed timers and oil burner igniters to start fires on the engine and on the pod skin. We measured temperatures and used different fire extinguishing agents.
Bill was adamant that it could be done, and motionmpictures were taken of the progress of various fires, from friendly to catastrophic.
Bill was a great mentor, positive about what could and should be done. He taught me a lot about perseverance and responsibility. His big smile always was a cheery sight.

Dear Irene and Westfield family,

To our dear sister, her children & grandchildren, we share your grief and sadness at Bill's passing. Having known and loved him for 60 years, as a wonderful, providing husband, father and grandfather, we will certainly miss Bill. We be comforted though. The Bible assures us that Bill is in God's memory - not forgotten (John 5:28,29) and has the hope of a resurrection (Acts 24:15). Our love goes out to the entire family at this time of loss.
