William Westfield

Obituary of William T. Westfield

William T. Westfield, age 88, of Shamong, NJ passed away on Saturday February 6, 2016. Beloved husband of Irene Westfield (nee Mitchell). Loving father of Michael (Margaret) Westfield and Rebecca (Christopher) Kearon. Proud grandfather of Marina, Emily, Rachel, and Darby. He is also survived and will be sadly missed by his sister Catherine Bell. William was born on Smedley Street in South Philadelphia, lived in Levittown, PA, Bowie, MD, and had resided in Shamong, NJ since 1979. He graduated from South Philadelphia High School, and then proudly served in the United States Army from 1946-1947 in Company A of the 85th Signal Operation Battalion in Occupied Korea. William went on to graduate from Drexel Institute of Technology in 1953 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering. After 23 years of service with the Federal Aviation Administration, he retired as Manager of the Propulsion and Structures Branch in Pomona, NJ where he specialized in aircraft safety. His proudest achievement was also his greatest disappointment: overseeing the development and testing of anti-misting kerosene fuel for jet aircraft, a promising life-saving program which was abandoned by the government. Funeral services for Mr. Westfield will be held at the Church of the Holy Eucharist, 520 Medford Lakes Rd., Tabernacle, NJ 08088 at 11 AM on Monday, February 15th followed by a gathering of family and friends in the church's Hoffman Hall. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Cure Alzheimer's Fund in his name.
