Gene was a wonderful man and will forever be in our hearts.
He could just enter a room and simply light it up with his one of a kind personality and humor. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Godspeed Gene......

I first met Gene when I was a young Insurance Adjuster 30 some years ago and he was managing a dealership shop in Cumberland County. Since then, we encountered each other in various capacities and shops many times over the years. Gene was always able to find humor in work situations and had life in proper perspective with a perpetual smile and posittive outlook. Sounds corny, but I can still see the twinkle in his eyes. A genuinely good natured guy whom I always did, and will, respect. A fine example to follow and simply A GOOD MAN.

A poem that I dedicate to my Brother / Uncle Gene
I'm Alive
© Abigale
Do not stand beside my grave and cry Because I am not there
I am still alive
I'm the sunlight sparkling on the grains of wheat
I'm the cool ocean breeze in the summer's dense heat
I'm as free as the wind that makes the leaves quiver and the sails move
And as alive as the water that rushes down the river to the bays and to the Ocean
So do not miss me
Because I was never gone
I'm with you like the stars
That shine until dawn
So please
Do not stand beside my grave and cry
Because I am not there
I have not died
We'll miss you alot Gene, but you'll always be in our heart and soul.
Love Pat, Donna, Patrick and Michael
Love

I have hundreds of wonderful memories of time spent with Gene during the more than 33 years of our friendship, but one day in particular stands out and will be a highlight of my life forever. I would like to relate it in haiku poem format.
Dad's Dream
Standing on the deck
Hearts joyful, halyards in hand,
Captain Gene and I.
The wind in our faces,
Course set for Havre de Grace,
Safe with Captain Gene.
"Dad's Dream" was just that,
On a day like this, no doubt.
Captain and dream one.
Tanker lies ahead
With Tolchester far astern.
Seagulls dive for food.
The crew will not fear
When the captain is fearless.
Captain sets the tone.
Gene had promised me
Crabcakes to die for in port.
Did not disappoint.
"Never disappoint",
Was the story of Gene's life.
A man kind and true.
The sun setting fast
We tie up at last in port.
Gene's way, nicely done.
What are we to do
Now that the Captain is gone.
It seems so unfair.
Such kindness, such strength,
Competent and confident,
God's gift to his friends.
I seek help from Gene,
(Being helpful was his way.)
"Tell me what to do."
"Set a course he'd say,
in his exemplary way,
"I'm just across the bay."
