Darlene Starrett

Obituary of Darlene J. Starrett

J.R.R. Tolkein had said; "Still round the corner there may wait a new road or a secret gate.a day will come at last when I shall take the hidden paths that run west of the Moon and east of the sun.." Just as partners Walt Disney had left Mickey Mouse to walk on with Roy, the day had come on Saturday April 7, 2012 when Darlene J. Starrett (nee Smith) unexpectedly started down the hidden path. In 2011 Disney World launched "Let the memories begin." Darlene's magic and memories began on May 24, 1955 in Philadelphia, PA. She spent her early years in Lindenwold and had recently been a resident of Washington Twp. where her home was a Mickey Mouse showcase. Mrs. Starrett was a kind, funny and brave single parent who was proud of her children and their accomplishments. Darlene worked as a Compliance Officer at Ameriprise in Marlton for 12 years and was an avid reader who enjoyed autobiographies and historical stories. She was a conservative and an active member of the Republican Party who frequently commented, posted and blogged on politics and the GOP. She loved to travel and visited Disney World with her family every year where the magic and memories would never end. Darlene is the widow of her late husband Robert Starrett. She is survived by her children Cheryl Starrett-Keller & her husband Eric and Robert Starrett. Mrs. Starrett is the daughter of Mabel (nee Smith) & the late Leslie H. Smith, Sr. Darlene is also survived and will be sadly missed by her sister Carol Smith, her brothers Leslie H. & his wife Ellen, Jr. and David M. Smith as well as her mother-in-law Dorothy Starrett, sister-in-law Doris Ferris and her faithful companion Zorg. Relatives and friends are invited to join the Starrett family to remember a wonderful person, celebrate Mickey's magic in our family and pay tribute to the conservative point of view on Thursday morning between 10 and 11 am at the LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home 441 White Horse Pike, Atco where a memorial ceremony will be celebrated at 11 am. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the ASPCA www.aspca.org
