Obituary of Donald Herman Stoll

Donald Herman Stoll passed away quietly in his home surrounded by his loving family on October 15, 2012. Born an only child to Herman and Kathryn Stoll in Philadelphia, PA. Don married Naomi Burkhardt Sep 5, 1959 also of Philadelphia. Devoted father of twin boys; Don (Kathleen) and Dan (Patricia) and daughters Gina (James) Korecki and Chrissy. Loving Grandfather to 8 beautiful grandchildren; Megan, Kathryn, Sean, Brendan, Jaclyn, Daniela, Elena, and Isabela. Don and Naomi enjoyed traveling around the world on cruises and trips to Ireland numerous times, the Mediterranean, and Israel to name a few. They loved visiting their grandchildren in Woodbridge, VA, Richardson, Texas, Seattle, Wa, and Ithaca, NY. They enjoyed visiting Naomi's siblings: Jim in Florida, Joan in Tennessee, Irene in Pennsylvania, and Bobby in Florida. He had a remarkable friendship with Herb and Jenny Grounds of California. He also loved his dogs, Peppy, Tootsie and Schatze. After Graduating from North East Catholic High School, Don Served in the Army as a morse code operator during the Korean War. He completed his bachelor's degree in accounting at LaSalle University upon his return to civilian life. Don then became an Officer in the Air Force and followed his dream to travel and see the world. He served in Thailand during the Viet Nam War earning the bronze star medal and the Viet Nam service medal with 4 devices, Additional Air Force assignments included Evreaux Air Base (AB) France, Langley Air Force Base (AFB), VA, Randolph AFB, Texas, McClellan AFB, CA, Ramstein (AB) Germany and McGuire AFB, NJ, twice. He graduated from the Air War College, Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and Air Command and Staff College. Then completed his Masters Degree in Education Counseling and Guidance at Our Lady of the Lake in Sacramento. Don retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel with military distinctions and honors. He also completed a second career with the NJ State Government. Don's greatest satisfaction in his life was with his wife of 53 years, his children, his grandchildren, his nieces and nephews, friends and relatives. His great friendship with Herb and Jenny Grounds was one that began in the Air Force in the 70's and stood the test of time and continues with the family. Don is loved and adored by many and his presence will be missed but his spirit is felt continuously.
